The Power of Community and Connection

Community is one of Centerpoint’s Principles of Service. We describe it this way: Change and renewal happen most gracefully within the circle of community. Connectedness provides support, feedback, resources, and shared experiences.

Centerpoint has fulfilled this Principle of Service over the past 17+ years through our workshops and services, LifeWork Library, and retreats, by gathering people in the same physical space. And yet, if we carefully look at this important component of Centerpoint’s vision, we never specifically articulate that Community is required to be face to face.  [Read More]

Breakthrough

I sometimes write poetry and prose. It’s an excellent way for me to process what I’ve been thinking and feeling. Mostly, it’s just for me, for a creative release. But, once in a while, I share it with others. Here’s a poem I just wrote that I would like to share with you. It’s about my personal journey and quest to live freely—to truly be myself.  [Read More]

A Vision For The Future

For those of you who don’t know, I grew up in Wisconsin, in a small city called Green Bay. You may have heard of us; we have a football team, and an amazing ex-quarterback who can’t really decide whether to retire or not. Even though the "Green Bay Metropolitan Area" has about 282,000 people, covering three counties, it still feels like a small town in many respects.  [Read More]

Learning How to Disappoint Others

Choosing between several options is really hard for me. One issue that I run up against is the strong tendency for me to be a "people pleaser."

A few nights ago, I had three possibilities of events to attend on the same night. I started getting anxious about which one to choose, partly because I wanted to do all three and partly because I didn’t want to disappoint the hosts. False Will and True Will

I participated in a retreat over the weekend. I do that from time to time. It’s essential for me to participate in my own personal/spiritual discovery. This discovery is ongoing, and interesting. I am always am deepening some understanding. It’s like an adventure into me.  [Read More]

Working With Worry

In today’s economic times a lot of us are worrying about jobs, finances, health, the future, etc. Problems and changes are a sign of life, and everyone is going to have problems and changes in their lives. But the good news is that you don’t have to make things worse by worrying about them!

Dr. Alan Zimmerman, in his book Pivot, talks about worrying and how it wastes your life in four important ways:  [Read More]

Pay Attention to Your Inner Stirrings

I live in a duplex and have a roommate. We’ve lived together for the past 3 years. She is also from Indiana and we share a fun Midwestern bond. Living with each other has been good for both of us but a few weeks ago, I began to feel stirrings that something different was around the corner. At times in the past I had questioned whether I wanted to continue living where I was before, but this stirring was a different—it was more solid.  [Read More]

An Attitude of Inner Curiosity

I lost my hearing aid a few days ago, which is a big "oops" if you make your living as a listener. It’s also an "oops" if you have young children like I do. I’m deaf in the other ear, so losing this device for my "good" ear is not such a good thing.  [Read More]
