Breakthrough

I sometimes write poetry and prose. It’s an excellent way for me to process what I’ve been thinking and feeling. Mostly, it’s just for me, for a creative release. But, once in a while, I share it with others. Here’s a poem I just wrote that I would like to share with you. It’s about my personal journey and quest to live freely—to truly be myself.

Breakthrough

Lost in the shadow
Of someone else’s casting
Finding myself sitting, standing
Waiting, to be seen

To breakthrough to an open space
To truly be fully me
Present in my body and soul
Open to the moment

Regardless of the circumstance
Light or heavy, full or empty
Like a wild animal that cannot be tamed
My inheritance—my birthright—is freedom!

Worthy of fighting for
Yet, it is also something that can be claimed
As easily as breathing in fully
Like sinking in to a soft feather bed
Settling in for a good night’s sleep
